I advocate everybody have a webcam (such as the WYZE cam) in their grow box/tent. The reality is that while it is a fun being able check on your plants and make timelapses, it does very little to allow you to remotely monitor the grow. I use the SensorPush system for remote monitoring, it measures temp, humidity and VPD sending live alerts to my phone if any parameters go out of spec.
Items needed:
- SensorPush Probe (one per grow area/microclimate)
- SensorPush WiFi Gateway
VPD Alertsso
The beauty of this system is that it calculates Vapor Pressure Deficit on the fly. If you have read my VPD article you will know that it essentially combines temperature and relative humidity into one useful metric that measures transpiration. Cloning plants requires the lowest VPD while plants in late flower require the highest VPD.
Target VPD Range:
- Clones / Seedlings 0.6 – 0.9 kPa
- Vegetative Stage 0.9 – 1.2 kPa
- Flower 1.2 – 1.7 kPa
Note that I will usually set my alerts to 20-40% higher/lower than the target VPD range to avoid getting frequent alerts due to minor variances. For example my flower tent alerts below 0.6 kPa or above 2.0 kPa.
SensorGrow Probe Placement
Ideally the probe should be at the top of the canopy and in the middle of your room. placing it on one of the walls at canopy level is fine too as long as it is an insulated wall, or there is some seperation from the wall as in my placement.
The WiFi gateway is optional, but I strongly recommend it. Without it the app requires bluetooth connection and will not send push notifications to your phone if something goes out of spec. Upgrade your grow with the SensorPush Remote Monitoring system. You won’t regret it.
