Ever since paying $180 for a pack of meatbreath seeds I’ve been wanting to make my own seeds using the colloidal silver method. In short you apply silver to a flowering female plant. The silver causes it to hermaphrodite and produce pollen sacs. The self-pollination results in feminized seeds since the plant only has female genetics to work with.

The build started by using wire to attach a carbon scrubber and fan to a 2×6. I don’t want to contaminate the rest of my basement with pollen so I wanted to do my best to keep this grow contained.
The fan was attached to adjustable height plastic shelving. The fan sits outside of the grow box so that any heat it generates does not impact the temp inside the grow area.
For the light I used this “75W” LED Board that sells for $30.
When I tested the actual draw it was only 30W. Disappointing but for the price, I cannot complain.
Canada is in a semi lockdown due to the novel Coronavirus, so I had to work with what I had. This meant cardboard and white paint. If my local hydro store was open I would have likely picked up some 5.5mm black and white poly.
I used low odor white latex paint. Aside from the light reflection, I wanted something that would seal the cardboard.
A $10 furnace filter completed the air intake. I’ve written about the understated importance of cannabis air intake filters in another post.
To help with light proofing and pollen containment I built a small frame around the door. I used a combination of duct tape and masking tape to seal all the edges.
I plan to use this box for making seeds but I bet I could yield at least 1 oz (or 30g) per harvest with this box. My long term average yield with full spectrum LED’s is 1.6g/watt meaning you should theoretically be able to pull 48g from a setup like this.
